The program aims at improving the quality of life in border regions between Greece and Albania through the promotion of sustainable local development and it covers eleven (11) border regional sections in Greece and four (4) Albanian regions. It is worth more than 42 million euros, while the EU contribution amounts to almost 36 million euros and comes from the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA).
The program focuses on the following priorities:
- Promoting the environment, sustainable transport and public infrastructure
- Development of the local economy.
The investments aim at promoting sustainable transport and improving management of transboundary water resources, waste and energy services. They also focus significantly on the mitigation and reversal of the negative effects of climate change via measures supporting the low carbon economy. In addition, they will stimulate the local economy by encouraging tourism and the preservation of cultural and natural resources. The program will contribute to strengthening competitiveness and supporting entrepreneurship.
